Let’s Talk Registration!!

Registration opens August 11th

On Sunday morning, August 11, camper registration for the 25th annual Chameleon’s Journey Fall Overnight Grief Camp will officially open

We will be returning to the beautiful YMCA Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie, October 12-13, as we explore our personal and communal grief bridge.  As a reminder, camp is completely free of charge due to the incredible generosity of our donors, foundations, and VIA Health Partners.

We are also staffed by regional experts in the field, bringing together highly trained counselors, social workers, chaplains, child life specialists, music therapists, and death doulas who are freely volunteering their time as a commitment to helping children and adolescents heal, grow, and thrive through their respective grief.  We cannot wait to welcome you to camp and want to provide a few details to help you through the registration process. Registration will officially close on Friday evening, September 27.

  1. A completed application must be submitted for every camper, even if they come from the same family.  The application is electronic and can be accessed from any smart device, including an iPhone, android or computer.

  2. The application will take about 10 minutes to complete, requires a series of signatures from either a parent or legal guardian, and asks for a brief medical history, information on any health insurance and a list of medications.

So, how do I register?

To begin, you will access the Chameleon’s Journey website and navigate to the "Camp Events" menu item and click “Upcoming Events" from the drop down menu.  On this page, you will find a listing for the 25th Annual Chameleon’s Journey Fall Overnight Grief Camp.  You will click on the RSVP button which will ask for a little information, including your name and e-mail address.  Registration will officially close on Friday evening, September 27 and will be the last day you can RSVP for your camper(s). Once entered and submitted, you will receive an e-mail which includes a link to the electronic application.  (If you do not receive the email shortly after your RSVP, please check your Junk and SPAM folders.) Again, the application can be completed on any smart device or computer.  After completing the application, including all signatures, simply click "Submit."  Your application will be screened by camp staff, and the parent/guardian will receive a welcome letter once a camper is officially accepted.  The welcome letter will also include a YMCA waiver for Camp Thunderbird which must be completed and returned in the provided envelope. Mailed waivers are due to our office by Wednesday, October 9th.

On October 12, we will begin signing in campers at Camp Thunderbird at 8 AM.  All medications must be brought in their original containers and signed in with our camp nurses for the duration of the weekend.  For troubleshooting or questions, please contact VIA Health Partners and Chameleon’s Journey at mcgregord@hpccr.org or 704-375-0100 and ask for the bereavement department.

Don’t forget our pre-camp virtual information sessions for any adults/guardians with questions.  Simply register for one of the 3 sessions via the event links below and the virtual session details for that specific meeting will be sent to your e-mail.
